Lakeville, Ct. In 1899 the Wake Robin Inn began as the Taconic School for girls until 1914 when the school was converted into the present day Inn by the school's former classic language teacher-Jane Hunter. Set in the Connecticut Berkshires just 2 hrs from Manhattan, this stately Georgian facility operated for 30 years under her management- being visited by such dignitaries as Winsted Churchill's mother- Jenny Jerome- Will Rogers, Greta Garbo , President Hoover, James Thurber , and others during her management. In 1945 the Wake Robin was sold to Mac Chamberlain and subsequently to several successive owners until present day. Perched on a hill the 23 room Wake Robin Inn on 11 acres with a 16 room cabana is in an idyllic secluded setting perfect for corporate excursions, romantic wedding weekends and holiday get-aways for city dwellers looking for that special dreamy old New England Inn reminiscent of a 1940's movie set. Nearby amenities include Tanglewood, Music Mountain Center, Yale School of Music, Tri-Arts Theatre, with local private schools of Hotchkiss, Salisbury Boys School and Indian Mountain School.
