Bethlehem is a rural town of approximately 3,422 residents located in Litchfield County and lies within a two hour drive of downtown Manhattan. A number of towns in Litchfield County derived their names from Biblical references of which Bethlehem is the most recognizable. The town's name has prompted thousands of visitors each December to mail their Christmas cards at the local post office in order to get the "Bethlehem" postmark.
The town has a total area of over 19 square miles and much of the surrounding county consists of open fields and forests. On the eastern side of town is a ridge called "the Devil's Backbone", one of more than 30 Connecticut places named after the devil. Bethlehem is noted for its many pristine antique homes and is the site of the annual Bethlehem Agricultural Fair which takes place every September.
